A home automation MNC wanted to co-create sustainable products with people living in Indian slums as a part of their CSR activity. Research was aimed to get a sense of their needs and frustrations about living in cramped spaces and come up with a product that can help them utilize space in an efficient way using their innovation spirit. Brainstorming sessions were arranged with a group of people and few prototypes were developed matching their requirements. Actual product manufacturing also happened in the near by area.
Client was able to co-create a multipurpose product that could be used differently based on the time of the day and the requirement. Since the entire research including brainstorming sessions, prototype building, installation and validation happened within the slums, client was able to learn the entire ecosystem and integrate some of these insights into their mainstream.
We co-coordinated with local community members, explained the research purpose and convinced them to be a part of the research.
